San Diego Promise
The San Diego Promise covers the cost of tuition for two years at San Diego City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges, and provides textbook grants of $400 per year to students who also qualify for a fee waiver (the California College Promise Grant, formerly known as the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver). The San Diego Promise program is open to all first-time/full-time students who are recent high school graduates. In addition, there are limited spaces available for students who do not meet the above requirements, and who are former foster youth, formerly incarcerated, adults returning to school, those who cannot attend full-time due to unique circumstances, and/or DACA recipients.

SoCal Pre Apprenticeship Program
SoCal Pre Apprenticeship is designed to prepare workers for the minimum requirements for entry into an established apprenticeship program. The 16-week program teaches skills needed to succeed in various industries.

  • 16-week program
  • Three (3) hour lessons, 3X per week
  • Focuses on entry-level occupational skills and trade-specific industry standards
  • Access to Case Managers for support and guidance through the program.
  • Provides wrap-around services (housing support, childcare, transportation, digital literacy, mental health support, obtaining state-issued identification, materials, tools, computers, and wi-fi)

San Diego College of Continuing Education
San Diego College of Continuing Education is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District. SDCCE’s mission is to provide accessible, equitable, and innovative quality education and career training to adult students. SDCCE has offered free career training and classes continuously for more than 100 years.

If you are a former student and are pursuing further education, please apply for our $500 grant!

Fellowship Application Steps:

  1. Fill out this google form (it should only take you about 10 minutes to complete). 
  2. Send an email to this email address (sdscienceclass@gmail.com) with: proof of enrollment in a higher education class or program AND one or two paragraphs (~500 words) describing your education and career goals.

We are beginning to compile a list of San Diego County organizations and companies that work in the sciences and welcome applications from formerly incarcerated or system-impacted people. This list will be expanded as we talk with more companies.
